Home of "The Big I," Independence High School has proudly served the Mint Hill and Charlotte communities since 1967.

Through specialized opportunities like our designation as a Cambridge School and robust CTE Concentrator pathways, our students engage in rigorous, career-focused learning that opens doors to higher education and future careers. Beyond the classroom, Patriot Nation carries a rich tradition of excellence, highlighted by a storied athletic history that includes multiple state championships and a nationally recognized legacy of success.

Leading Patriot Nation is Dennis Hobbs, a principal who brings 23 years of deeply rooted experience in public education—spanning classrooms, athletic courts, school leadership, and district-level administration. Having served as a middle and elementary school teacher in CMS, Mooresville, and Baltimore, as well as a principal across elementary, middle, and high schools, our leadership brings a comprehensive understanding of the complete K-12 student journey. Supported by prior experience as CMS Director of Professional Development and Executive Director of High Schools, our administrative team is dedicated to empowering teachers, elevating instructional standards, and driving strategic growth across our campus.
