Our Principal
Mr. Dennis Hobbs
I am proud to serve the Independence High School community, bringing 23 years of experience in public education to our students, staff, and families. My career has allowed me to serve in a variety of roles that have shaped my leadership and strengthened my commitment to student success.
I previously spent two years at the district level as the Director of Professional Development and the Executive Director of High Schools, where I supported school leaders, instructional practices, and strategic planning across multiple campuses. Before my district role, I served as principal at J.M. Robinson High School, N.F. Woods High School, Parkview Elementary, and China Grove Middle School. I also spent time as an assistant principal at China Grove Elementary and Carson High School in Rowan County.
Before becoming a school administrator, I taught middle school math, social studies, and science, as well as 4th grade and kindergarten in Baltimore, Mooresville, and CMS. I also enjoyed coaching middle school boys basketball and high school boys and girls basketball, which helped me build strong relationships with students both in the classroom and on the court.
I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and raised in Philadelphia, and I’m the proud father of four amazing children: Daevin (21), Ella (20), Camri (18), and Reason (13).
Outside of school, I enjoy exercising, traveling with my family, watching sports, and spending quality time with loved ones.I’ve been a sports fan my whole life. I pull for the Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Volunteers football, Ohio State women’s basketball, WCU women’s basketball, and the Philadelphia Eagles (unless they’re playing the Ravens). I also love music, especially hip hop and R&B, with a little pop and country mixed in.
I am honored to be part of the Patriot family and look forward to supporting our students as they grow, achieve, and prepare for their futures.
